RoofSnap FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about RoofSnap reports and the roof measurements behind every bid.
Using RoofSnap
How much does a RoofSnap report cost?
A single roof report costs $6.99 USD with no subscription. Monthly team plans are available for contractors who measure many roofs; see the pricing page for current plans.
What is in a RoofSnap report?
Roof surface area and squares, per-facet pitch and direction, lengths of eaves, rakes, ridges, hips and valleys, a colored length diagram, and waste-adjusted quantities, delivered as a PDF.
How accurate are RoofSnap measurements?
RoofSnap does not promise a universal accuracy percentage. Results depend on available imagery, roof complexity and changes to the property. Review the outline and flagged facets, and verify uncertain details on site before a final bid or order.
Which addresses are covered?
US addresses where Google Solar building data is available for the selected building. Coverage varies by property, so check the actual address before buying.
Can I measure a detached garage or a second building?
Yes. Right-click on a computer, or press and hold on a phone, on the satellite view to measure an additional roof, and use the toggles to include or exclude secondary buildings.
Where do I find reports I already bought?
Sign in and open My reports. You can view and download the PDFs for your own purchases at any time.
Do team plans roll over unused reports?
No. Team plan reports reset each monthly billing period, and unused reports expire. Plans renew automatically until cancelled, and you can cancel from Manage subscription.
Who handles payments and refunds?
Payments are processed by Paddle as Merchant of Record. For billing and refund questions, contact Paddle at paddle.net or reach out to RoofSnap.
Does a report replace a roof inspection?
No. Satellite geometry cannot show decking condition, roofing layers, leaks or flashing quality. Use the report for planning and quantities, alongside a site visit.
Roofing measurement basics
What is a roofing square?
One roofing square is 100 square feet of roof surface. A 2,400-square-foot roof is 24 squares before waste.
How do I convert roof pitch to degrees?
Angle = arctan(rise ÷ run). A 4:12 pitch is about 18.4°, 6:12 is about 26.6°, 8:12 is about 33.7° and 12:12 is 45°.
How does pitch change roof area?
Sloped area = horizontal area × √(1 + (rise ÷ 12)²). At 6:12, a 1,000-square-foot footprint is about 1,118 square feet of roof surface. Do not apply this to a measurement that is already slope-corrected.
How many bundles of shingles are in a square?
Many asphalt shingle products are packaged at about three bundles per square, but coverage varies. Use the coverage printed on the wrapper and round up.
How much waste should I add?
It depends on the roof. Simple gables need less allowance than roofs with many hips, valleys and dormers. Keep waste as a separate line and agree the figure with your installer and supplier.
What is the difference between a hip and a valley?
Both are sloped lines where two planes meet. Water runs away from a hip (an outside corner) and into a valley (an inside corner).
What is the difference between a rake and an eave?
Both have roof on one side only. An eave is the level bottom edge where water runs off; a rake is the sloped edge at a gable end.
Which edges are used for drip edge, starter and ridge cap?
Drip edge commonly follows eaves and rakes, starter follows eaves (and rakes where the manufacturer calls for it), and ridge cap follows ridges and hips. Confirm with the product instructions.
